Collection: Natural linseed oil for wood – traditional and sustainable protection

We offer both cold-pressed and boiled linseed oil, which penetrates deeply into the wood and forms a durable protective layer against moisture and mold.

How to Choose the Right Linseed Oil: Cold-Pressed or Boiled?

Although both oils are fundamentally natural linseed oil, they have different uses due to their distinct properties.

1. Cold-Pressed Linseed Oil – for Priming

This oil is obtained through a gentle pressing process. Its main characteristic is a smaller molecular size, which allows the oil to penetrate much deeper into the wood pores compared to standard wood protection products.

  • Application: for impregnating and priming wood before painting (for example, window frames, facades, garden furniture).
  • Why choose it: it forms a natural barrier against moisture from within.
  • Usage: to improve absorption, it is recommended to heat it to ~60°C.

2. Boiled Linseed Oil – for Treatment and Paint Thinning

This linseed oil is thermally processed, resulting in a changed molecular structure so that it reacts better with oxygen and dries faster. It forms a more durable surface layer.

  • Application: for thinning linseed oil paints, restoring old paintwork (adds gloss and flexibility), or as a coating for various indoor wooden surfaces (tables, furniture, windowsills, window frames)
  • Why choose it: dries significantly faster than cold-pressed linseed oil and the surface becomes harder.

Why Choose Allbäck Linseed Oil?

Unlike standard oils available in construction stores, Allbäck linseed oil products are purified from proteins and other organic impurities. This is critically important, as it is precisely proteins that, in a damp environment, promote the formation of mold and fungi on the wood surface.
