Allbäck Shellac Flakes (Dark) - 200 ml

Allbäck Dark Shellac is a natural resin that serves as a universal, fast-drying primer in restoration processes. The dark shellac not only imparts a warm amber tone to wood but is indispensable in construction joints where material compatibility and longevity must be ensured.

Application:

• Priming of rebates (grooves): Before glazing (puttying) windows, the frame rebates must be treated with shellac. It creates an impermeable barrier that prevents the wood from absorbing linseed oil from the window putty. As a result, the putty retains its elasticity for years, does not crumble, and adheres firmly to the frame.
• Knot isolation: Prevents wood resins from seeping through the paint layer. This is a mandatory prerequisite if you plan to paint windows or furniture with light linseed oil paint shades.

Shellac Preparation:

The varnish is prepared by dissolving flakes in denatured alcohol (at least 95%).

1. Proportions:
   • For knot and rebate isolation: 100g of flakes to 300ml of alcohol (ratio 1:3).
   • For furniture polishing: 100g of flakes to 200ml of alcohol (ratio 1:2).
2. Mixing: Pour the flakes into a glass jar and add the alcohol. Seal the lid tightly.
3. Dissolving: Allow to stand for 12–24 hours, shaking occasionally. The flakes must be completely dissolved.
4. Storage: Store in a dark, cool place. It is recommended to prepare an amount that will be used within the next 6 months.

Application in the restoration process:

• Window rebates: Apply 1–2 coats in the rebates before inserting glass and puttying.
• Knot areas: Apply 2 coats on knot areas before painting the surface with linseed oil paints.
• Furniture: Use as a base coat before waxing or as a standalone varnish layer (French polishing).
