Description

Black glaze-like finish with a matte effect — highlights the natural texture of wood and gives a classic, elegant appearance.

Svart Roslagsmahogny continues the centuries-old Swedish tar oil traditions. It has been widely used since the early 19th century, protecting the facades of buildings along the Roslagen coast and the Stockholm archipelago. The product's composition has not changed over time: pine tar, cold-pressed linseed oil, and balsam turpentine, with added black iron oxide pigment. Free from petroleum-based solvents and synthetic additives. The result is a deep black, matte finish with a glaze-like effect that highlights the natural grain of the wood.

Why choose Svart Roslagsmahogny?

Synthetic paints often form a film layer on the wood surface, which cracks and peels over time. Svart Roslagsmahogny works differently — the linseed oil in its composition deeply penetrates the wood, while the pine tar with added pigment fills micro-cracks and provides protection against moisture, rot, pests, and UV radiation.

Main advantages:

  • Economical: unlike many synthetic paints, a single coat is usually sufficient for full protection against moisture and mold.
  • Matte surface: does not create a shine — lacks the “plastic” or “lacquered” effect typical of synthetic paints and varnishes.
  • Suitable for various surfaces: works on both planed and sawn wood — facades, log houses, fences, and garden furniture.
  • Low consumption: 6–10 m²/L depending on the wood's absorption capacity and surface type (sawn or planed).
  • Does not peel or crack: does not form a covering film — the oil deeply penetrates the wood pores, creating a durable protective layer. The surface wears evenly, and no removal of the old layer is needed for renewal.

Application

  1. Preparation: the surface must be clean, dry, and free from synthetic paints or varnishes. Dirty surfaces should be washed with linseed oil soap and water, then allowed to dry completely.
  2. Mixing: the product contains natural iron oxide pigment, which may settle. Stir thoroughly before use and periodically during work.
  3. Application: apply in a thin, even layer with a brush in the direction of the wood grain. Work in widths of 2–3 boards to avoid visible transitions.
  4. Second coat (if necessary): for a deeper tone, apply after 24–48 hours when the first coat is completely dry. In most cases, one coat is sufficient.
  5. Temperature: apply in dry weather when the air and surface temperature is at least +18°C. Avoid direct sunlight and precipitation.
