What is Falu Rödfärg Original?

Falu Rödfärg Original is a natural water-based Swedish paint, containing a unique pigment derived from the minerals of the historic Falun mine (iron oxide, silica, zinc, copper), a natural flour thickener, and linseed oil as a binder. It does not contain synthetic additives, solvents, or chemicals, making it a safe choice for health and the environment.

The iron oxide pigments and silica in Falu Rödfärg form a diffusion-open protective layer that allows the wood to "breathe" and release water vapor from its pores. The paint creates a microporous coating that helps maintain a stable moisture balance in the wood, reducing excessive absorption and thereby protecting the wood from rot and mold.

Falu Rödfärg Original is ideally suited for log buildings, rough wooden facades, barns, fences, and other unplaned wooden surfaces.

Which surfaces can be painted?

✅ Rough-cut wood – best suited for sawn pine and spruce, as their rough texture ensures optimal paint absorption and longevity.
❌ Not suitable for planed surfaces – they are too smooth and do not absorb the paint well. Not suitable for painting window frames and doors.

How to apply it correctly?

🔹 Surface preparation:

• The surface must be dry and clean (wood moisture below 18%).
• The wooden surface must be completely free from synthetic coatings or paints.

🔹 Painting:

• For new, untreated wood – apply one primer coat diluted with 10-20% water, followed by a second coat of undiluted paint after 24 hours.
• For previously painted surfaces – apply one coat with a brush.
• Paint at temperatures between +5°C and +25°C, avoiding direct sunlight and rain.
• For best results, we recommend using a special Falu Rödfärg facade brush.

Storage

📦 Store in a dry place above +5°C, in a tightly sealed container.
